Ford and Hyundai post record August sales levels

Ford Canada sales up 8 percent in August. Hyundai has its best August ever as sales were up 9.5 percent.

Ford Motors Canadian unit said on Wednesday that its sales were up 8 percent last month for its best August in 20 years.

The company said it sold 24,034 cars and light trucks in August. Sales were driven by a 21% increase in compact utility vehicle sales, as well as a 5% increase in truck sales during the month. Car sales were up 18.9 percent from the same month a year earlier, the company said. Year to date, Ford’s sales are up 17% compared with the same period last year.

Most analysts expect that Ford will overtake General Motors of Canada in the 2010 Canadian sales race for the first time in history.
